MY LIFE TESTIMONY

THIS IS REALLY A WORK IN PROGRESS

I grew up in a family of five boys. My growing up years happened during the Second World War, followed by the Korean War. Patriotic feelings existed in a major way in our family.  All of my brothers served with considerable distinction (2 of them making it a career--a third with my son teaching in West Point and rising to a Lt. Colonel rank).
Strangely, even though I desperately wanted to, I didn't join.

My family background had no Christian Evangelical tradition whatever. My father had only some Bible education from his public school, making him more of a cynic than a believer. My mother had an involvement in Christian Science. She wanted to believe but, caught up in a cult, she accepted Christ, as did my father, late in life.

At the age of 17, I accepted Christ as my Savior. The impact of Christ definitely changed my thinking. However, while I said, I accepted Christ as Lord, I didn't walk the talk until He called me on it.
At the age of 18, I  made a secret commitment, that I would serve the Lord with whatever gifts or talents that I possessed.
At the age of 33, after further education and acquiring a position as a U.S.Forest Service engineer.
ACTUALLY, IN SPITE OF EARLIER COMMITTMENTS, I THOUGHT THIS WAS WHERE I WANTED TO BE.  I always liked the outdoors--"the woods". A good secure job(in the U.S. Forest Service civil service in the 1960s--before it got political )  A job where I used both brains and brawn (much hiking-surveying0, and one I would grow and work independently as I was promoted in rank. I made a bad mistake on my job, by doing something I thought would advance the work. We did have an expert from the R.O. Office giver a tlak about innovation, so I thought I'd speed up our chaining measuring, by calculating distances on straight alinements (We did this by measuring across rivers and streams). Chaining is not olny slow it's not all that accurate.  (Incidently using right angle calculatiions is what the new "All-Position Theodolite does--obviously lazors aremuch more accurate. At any rate "proper procedures" meant doing all the distance measuring again, and put me in bad with "higher up" guys.

, I was confronted again(writing in the snow and other testimonies) with the need to honor my previous commitment. So 6 years later, of further education, I serviced 25 years with Village Missions--as a missionary--church pastor.

So I joined an army for Christ that really called for life duty.
